Happy Christmas and New Year
Martin Place Christmas Concert
Martin Place Christmas Concert

Christmas will be more Australian this year with wildflower and native bird themes on banners and light projections. Our Christmas Tree Lighting in Martin Place and celebrations in Hyde Park will again mark the start of City Christmas festivities and our City and villages will sparkle with decorations and free family concerts will be held in Elizabeth Bay, Rosebery, Alexandria and Surry Hills.

To improve sustainability, LED lighting powered by green power is used in all of the City’s festive decorations. Vegetable gardens grown by local students will feature at the family Christmas Concerts to demonstrate how to live healthy and green.
The Town Hall will again be the striking backdrop for our Christmas projections. Every night from 8.30pm, 26 November, until Christmas day, twelve uniquely Australian Christmas images will light up the facade of the building.

Christmas is a time to come together, celebrate and to extend peace and goodwill to others. On behalf of the City of Sydney, Councillors and Staff, we wish you a Happy Christmas and a peaceful and sustainable New Year.

Christmas decorations will be installed at more locations across the city as we expand our festive program this year, plus new Christmas banners featuring colourful flora and fauna. There will be a new Christmas tree at Kings Cross, extended pole decorations along Glebe Point Road and a bigger garland decoration on the Town Hall balcony. Christmas banners will hang on major streets throughout the city. To conserve power, LED lighting is to be used in all of the City’s festive lighting powered by green power. All decorations are durable and made to be re-used.

Pack a picnic and join children and families at the City’s free Village Family Concerts. Hosted by children’s entertainers Johnny and Liesel, the concerts will include live bands, Christmas carols by Sorelle, various children’s performers and a guest appearance by Santa. Come along and enjoy a BBQ, children’s activities, meet some special friends from Doggie Rescue and for the first time this year experience the spirit of Christmas at the renewed Beare Park in Elizabeth Bay.

The renewal of Foley Park coincides with the Glebe Sesquicentenary. Major improvements include a larger children's playground area relocated away from Bridge Road and levelling of the central village green. The restored historic Wireless House was built by Glebe Council, with a wireless set donated by Grace Bros, so that people could hear radio broadcasts during the interwar period.

Big Buddha in Tung Chung, forgot the exact village name. We were planning to take cable car, but it was under repair so we took bus instead. We continued with shopping at CityGate Mall - which is a factory outlet centre in Hong Kong. A must visit place for shoppers!
